Primary Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma of Bone

Abstract

|
|
Four patients with malignant fibrous histiocytoma of bone were studied. The age of the patients was between 20 and 66 with a mean of 49. Three were men. All four patients are alive but two out of four showed pulmonary metastasis or local recurrence, despite surgical removal with or without chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Pathologically, all four tumor showed storiform pattern of fibrogenic growth and histiocyte-like cells including xanthomatous cells and cells with myogenic aura.
The histiogenesis of this peculiar tumor is discussed.
